Staying in Control

The majority of our customers enjoy the Sportingbet entertainment experience.

Whilst the majority of people do gamble within their means, for some gambling can become a problem.

It may help you to keep control to remember the following:

1. Gambling should be entertaining and not seen as a way of making money
2. Avoid chasing losses
3. Only gamble what you can afford to lose
4. Keep track of the time and amount you spend gambling
5. If you want to have a break from gambling you can use our self exclusion option by emailing us at exclusion@sportingbet.com with details of all the accounts you have opened with us. Sportingbet will then close your account(s) for a period of 6 months, during which time it will not be possible for the account(s) to be re-opened for any reason.

Occasionally individuals may be concerned about their gambling habits. For those who are concerned the following questionnaire from Gamcare may give some guidance.

Problem Gambling

If you are concerned that gambling may have taken over your (or someone else's life) then the following questions may help you find out:

1. Have others ever criticised your gambling?
2. Have you ever lied to cover up the amount you have gambled or time you have spent doing it?
3. Do arguments, frustrations or disappointments make you want to gamble?
4. Do you gamble alone for long periods?
5. Do you stay away from work or college to gamble?
6. Do you gamble to escape from a boring or unhappy life?
7. Are you reluctant to spend 'gambling money' on anything else?
8. Have you lost interest in your family, friends or pastimes due to gambling?
9. After losing, do you feel you must try and win back your losses as soon as possible?
10. When gambling and you run out of money, do you feel lost and in despair, and need to gamble again as soon as possible?
11. Do you gamble until your last penny is gone?
12. Have you lied, stolen or borrowed just to get money to gamble or to pay gambling debts?
13. Do you feel depressed or even suicidal because of your gambling?

These questions are provided to help an individual decide if he or she has a problem and needs to seek help.

Getting Help

There are many organisations that can provide support and assistance to individuals who develop a problem with gambling. If you feel this has happened to you we recommend contacting a self-help organisation for guidance.

National Council on problem gambling

The National Council on Problem Gambling is the national advocate for programs and services to assist problem gamblers and their families. The mission of the NCPG is to increase public awareness of pathological gambling, ensure the widespread availability of treatment for problem gamblers and their families, and to encourage research and programs for prevention and education.

GAMCARE

GamCare has a commitment to promote responsible attitudes to gambling and to work for the provision of proper care for those who have been harmed by gambling dependency.

Gamblers anonymous (UK)

Gamblers Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who have joined together to do something about their own gambling problem and to help other compulsive gamblers do the same.

Gamblers anonymous international service office

Gamblers anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from a gambling problem.

Filtering Systems

Self-exclusion or Opt-out

On request, Sportingbet will close any customer's account or accounts for a period of 6 months during which time it will not be possible for the account(s) to be re-opened for any reason. During the period of opt-out, Sportingbet will do all it can to prevent new accounts being re-opened. An account that is simply 'closed' can be re-opened by the customer at any time. To use our self exclusion option, email us at exclusion@sportingbet.com with details of all the accounts you have opened with us.

Staff training

All our customer service staff receive awareness training on problem gambling issues.

Customer History and Balance

Customers can easily access a full history of their transactions, withdrawals and deposits with 'My Account'.

A customer's balance is always available through the 'My Account' page and can also be seen from the sportingbet.com home page.
